DOT Status Check

A DOT status check confirms whether a carrier’s USDOT registration is active and whether its FMCSA operating authority is Authorized. Enter a USDOT number, MC number, or company name below to check a carrier’s current status - free.

Active vs. Authorized

These are two different signals. USDOT status (Active / Inactive) reflects the carrier’s registration. Operating Authority Status (Authorized / Not Authorized) reflects whether the carrier holds active for-hire authority (an active MC docket). A carrier can be Active but Not Authorized.

How to check a carrier’s status

Search the USDOT or MC number above and open the record. dotsearch.us shows both the USDOT status and the operating authority status, derived from the live FMCSA authority data - the accurate, SAFER-equivalent signal.

What “Not Authorized” means

“Not Authorized” means the carrier does not currently hold active for-hire operating authority - it may operate privately or exempt, be newly registered, or have had authority revoked. Confirm with the carrier before tendering regulated freight. See the MC number lookup to check authority directly.
